As a UK psychotherapist who supervises a project which provides counseling for refugees, Ryde seeks to sensitize practitioners to how the usually unexamined experience of being 'white' affects intercultural relationships in racialized environments. Viewing unconscious processes as conceptualized by intersubjectivists Stolorow and Atwood, she explains how she explored her 'whiteness' via the action research technique of a co-operative inquiry group and applied this understanding to encourage greater diversity in organizations through white-awareness training.
