This book provides background and information needed for designing and implementing a workplace health promotion program. Part I reviews the history of the field, describes worksite-based intervention opportunities for population health, and looks at legal perspectives and the role of health policy. Part II shifts the focus to the role of evidence in making decisions about fund allocation and effectiveness of employer-sponsored health programs, and Part III covers assessment, measurement, and evaluation of programs. Part IV discusses various aspects of program design and implementation, from basics of behavior change theory to aspects of technology use and social networks. This section also addresses diversity, health literacy, healthy workplace culture, and incentives. Part V presents four in-depth case studies of successful applications with tree planters, a midsized employer, and two large, multinational companies. Chapter review questions are included.
