Hartas (Institute of Education, U. of Warwick, UK) considers multiple aspects of childhood, proposing an alternative framework of childhoods that addresses children's rights, the effects of growing up in transient neighborhoods and a fast-changing world, the influence of identity differences, and the impact of the changing nature of knowledge. She discusses children's experiences with friendships and bullying, and with globalization and technology; their right to be different; their right to having their voices heard and to participate in society; and the role of education in a knowledge-based society. Her study draws on research findings from the Needs Analysis study at the U. of Warwick and the Young People's Social Attitudes Survey (2003) from the UK.
