Gibson and Muse (functional genomics and bioinformatics, North Carolina State U.) cover bioinformatics principles and experimental methods, assuming readers have taken a course in genetics and omitting explanation of basic concepts. They emphasize statistics and analysis in the design and interpretation of genomic data, and do not focus on the biological impact. This edition has been updated to include recent developments in genome sequencing, next-generation resequencing, whole-genome genotyping, genome-wide association studies, commercial gene chips and bead arrays for whole-transcriptome profiling, and advances in metabolomics and systems biology.
