This work tells the story of the German attack on a convoy of 20 merchant ships sailing westwards off Dover in the UK. The battle triggered by the attack was initially (and, the author argues, correctly) recorded as the first day of the Battle of Britain. The book offers a detailed account of land, sea, and air operations on that day from the different perspectives of all involved, including the RAF, Luftwaffe, Merchant Navy, Royal Navy, and Kriegsmarine, drawing on personal accounts, diaries, logbooks, and official records. Numerous b&w historical photos are included. Saunders is a co-founder of the Tangmere Aviation Museum. The book is distributed in the US by Casemate.
