In the late 1980s, Morris (political science, U. of South Alabama) argued that the causes, consequences, and patterns of corruption in Mexico were directly attributable to the unique authoritarian political system, dominated by the Partido Revolucionaria Institucional. Now that Mexico has experienced heightened electoral competition, more divided government, and greater political pluralism, he turns back to the question of corruption, exploring the impact of recent political and institutional changes on changes in popular perceptions of corruption, participation rates or actual corrupt activity, and the types of corruption.
