This volume brings together the journals of abstract expressionist Grace Hartigan, in which she documents her struggles with aspects of her painting, her creative process, and descriptions of the artists and others involved in the 1950s New York art scene. A few colorplates and several b&w photos are included. The journals, written from 1951 to 1955, are part of the Grace Hartigan Papers at the Special Collections Research Center at Syracuse U.
