In international technological competition, countries that cannot produce enough engineers run the risk of failing to keep their place in the new world order. This book is a report which follows a two-year study, of the Committee on K-12 Engineering Education under the auspices of the National Academy of Engineering and the Board on Science Education. The report grapples with the importance of the growing phenomenon of engineering education at the K-12 level, and its implications for other STEM (science, technology, and mathematics) curricula. The report analyzes the state of K-12 engineering education, and offers proposals for future direction. An accompanying CD-ROM contains suggested engineering projects for classroom use.
