This catalog builds on the work of the 1923 survey by the Garden Club of Virginia titled Historic Gardens of Virginia, which served as a model for other garden surveys. Bemiss (James River Garden Club, Richmond) provides historical and architectural context on GCV restoration projects, 1975-2007, at such notable sites as Monticello, Mount Vernon, the University of Virginia, and the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library. The volume includes a map of the gardens; landscape plans; color photographs by Roger Foley; and appended information on GCV restorations, gifts, and the plants used.
