The guide contains about 700 species, with illustrations of 550 species, detailed descriptions of 350 species, an overview of plant characteristics, and a brief introduction to tidal wetland types and where to visit wetlands in the region. The volume is a revised and expanded version of Tiner's A Field Guide to Coastal Wetland Plants of the Northeastern United States (1987). More tidal wetland types are covered in this volume, and the scope extends to Canada's Maritime Provinces.
