Literacy specialists Bear (U. of Nevada, Reno), Invernizzi (U. of Virginia), Templeton (U. of Nevada, Reno), and Johnston (U. of North Carolina, Greensboro) present a supplemental text for use with the core text Words Their Way: Word Study for Phonics, Vocabulary, and Spelling Instruction. The companion text provides teachers with materials, sorts, and activities for word study with emergent learners in preschool, kindergarten, and first grade. The second edition features targeted sections clarifying which students will benefit most from the instruction, a bank of assessments to determine students' word concept and phonological knowledge and to identify the most appropriate instruction, and literature connections to reinforce the concepts being studied.
