Paul Horiuchi

Chikamasa Horiuchi was a Japanese-born artist who came to America as a child. He is better known by his English name, Paul Horiuchi. Johns, a Seattle based art historian, presents a look at his life and work. While not sent to an interment camp during World War II, Horiuchi and his family were forced from their home and lived out the years in poverty and fear. Moving to Seattle in 1946 the artist rebuilt his life becoming celebrated in his lifetime. His work includes representational paintings, sculpture, murals, abstracts and collages. The book is replete with photographs and full color prints of the art. Co-published with the Museum of Northwest Art. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
