In Buddhist lore, hungry ghosts have huge bellies and needle-thin necks - they cannot swallow the food they crave, and their hunger is insatiable. The Barbary Coast of San Francisco - formerly the city's infamous red-light district and hedonistic playground for sailors - has plenty of hungry ghosts. But the living ghosts are the ones that threaten stuntdouble Darcy Lott when she returns to San Francisco to serve as assistant to her Zen teacher, Leo Garson, in his new zendo.<BR>Set among wistful Victorians and climbing hillsides, the second installment of the Darcy Lott series finds stuntwoman Darcy pained by the disappearance of her brother, and by her estrangement from her family. But she finds herself in demand for stuntwork, and one day, in a pre-dawn shoot atop a turret, as she's about to do a thirty-five foot dive to the sidewalk, she spies her brother on the roof of the nearby zendo. Rushing to catch up to him, she arrives where he stood just moments ago, only to find him gone. The very next day, another disappearance rattles Darcy, and it's then that she realizes something very strange is unfolding around her, something that's driven by a hunger so powerful it could threaten the lives of everyone in the city before it's sated.<BR>What ensues is a terrifying plot in which Darcy must once again race to stop a killer before more lives are taken - and it may require a stunt so death-defying that it's sure to be the most dangerous of all.
