Like the old Cold War, the "new Cold War" between the West and political Islam is a battle primarily of ideas, argues Indian-born and American-trained nuclear physicist Muthuswamy. He argues that undermining the ideology of political Islam is a far more effective means of waging the "politico-terror war" than militarily occupying Muslim countries. He suggests that science be utilized to question and discredit the theological foundations of political Islam and portray Sharia law as being nothing more than medieval customs of certain Arabian tribes. He also recommends removing troops from untenable situations in Iraq and Afghanistan and shifting propaganda focus away from such groups as al-Qaeda and Hamas and on to what he terms the "axis of jihad:" Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Pakistan.
