The Symposium of the 19th Century Press, the Civil War, and Free Expression has been held since 1993 at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. A three-volume set presents selected and edited papers from the symposium, the first looking at film and fiction, and the third exploring images of race and gender in the 19th-century press.
