David Stamps (sociology, U. of South Florida) and Miriam Stamps (marketing, U. of South Florida) provide insights into the growth and development of minority communities and the historical context within which it occurs. The authors use their city of residence, Syracuse, New York, as the source of this in-depth sociological study. They also explore the reasons why the city's black community developed relatively late and experienced difficulties in its early relationship with the white community.
