They aim to cover the current state of research in the field and demonstrate the importance and broad implications of these emotions, and discuss the theories of their nature and function, addressing basic brain mechanisms and complex social processes; developmental pathways; the role of culture; specific research on each emotion; and the applications and implications of these emotions in different areas, such as criminality, terror management, body image, narcissism, and international aggression. The final chapter addresses self-report and nonverbal approaches to assessment.
