The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) has some 1200 neighborhood chapters across the United States working for such goals as better housing and wages for the poor, more community development investment from banks and governments, better public schools, and other social justice issues. This volume, edited by Fisher (School of Social Work, U. of Connecticut) contains 12 chapters, written by individual inside and outside of ACORN, analyzing how it goes about its work, what distinguishes it from other community organizations, and the results of recent campaigns concerning such issues as the living wage and minority voter mobilization.
