Now in its sixth edition, this critical thinking text for undergraduates adds two chapters on writing argumentative essays. The text focuses on helping students develop skills for interpreting statements and arguments, determining the truth or falsity of different types of statements, and assessing different types of inferences. It covers traditional topics, such as deductive and inductive reasoning, logical fallacies, and ambiguity, as well as less traditional topics, such as ethical reasoning and how the nature of a language can affect the structure of an argument. Pedagogical features include self-tests with answers, discussion questions, a glossary, and an appendix of puzzles, paradoxes, and solutions.
