Fletcher (author of "Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini": A Thirteenth-Century Sermon for Advent and the Macaronic Style in England) has compiled an anthological cross-section of late medieval Orthodox Christian sermons from Britain and Ireland. The diversity of approaches to preaching to an audience of laity during this period is represented in the sermons and Fletcher's analysis, thus exposing the church's mission to influence literature and culture ad populum. The text serves to highlight various methods used by the church, such as "Anglocentrism", to appeal to the common people of the British Isles. Successes such as Ireland and England are analyzed as well as failures ie: Wales and Cornwall.
