This is the autobiography of William M. "Billy" McGinty (1871-1961), an Oklahoma bronco-buster who joined the First U.S. Volunteer Cavalry (the "Rough Riders") at the onset of the Spanish-American War. The autobiography begins with McGinty's 1898 enlistment and describes his war experiences and continues through the fall of 1901, when McGinty left Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West shows and returned to Oklahoma. The editors have added additional biographical material fleshing out the rest of McGinty's life, including his role as the founder of one of the first nationally famous cowboy bands.
