Drawing on her research in three of Accra's new churches, and against the backdrop of debate concerning the role of Pentecostalism as a mediator of modernity, Soothill (SOAS) examines the interaction between charismatic Christianity, social change, and gender in contemporary Ghana. She looks at how female pastors and pastors' wives produce new forms of gendered authority and re-legitimate established norms; and at charismatic discourses on men, marriage, and family life.
