Carson (economics, U. of California, San Diego, and the Centre for the Study of Choice, U. of Technology, Australia) offers a bibliography of research on contingent valuation for researchers, scholars, and policy makers. He provides a historical account of the development of the subject, then a list of about 7,500 published studies and master's theses from countries around the world, organized alphabetically by author. Studies were included if they use stated preferences and a basic economic framework with the goal of valuing something not routinely bought or sold in the marketplace, excluding most revealed-preference studies, those from political science, psychology, and sociology that use surveys to elicit preference information, and those from experimental economics, unless they focus on insights into contingent valuation. Most marketing and transportation studies are omitted, as are those focusing on cost-benefit analysis, microeconomic theory, econometrics, and survey research.
