A new museum and education center that opened in October 2006 offered visitors a window into the spiritual life on the plantation of the first US president, but Thompson decided that the constraints imposed by the medium of an exhibit case left much to be explored. She looks at such aspects of Washington's (1732-99) religious life as early influences, his Anglican affiliation, confirmation and communion, evidence of belief in his statements, and charity and toleration.
