Designed to serve the needs of both students and practicing nurses, this book compiles brief chapters covering diverse legal and ethical topics such as documentation, confidentiality, and advance directives. It also includes material on issues pertinent to everyday practice, including refusing patient assignment, and sexual harassment in the workplace. Chapters are in sections on the law and nursing practice, liability in patient care, documentation issues, employment and the workplace, and ethics. Each chapter reviews current court cases involving nurses, in addition to core content that is essential to every nursing curriculum. In addition to scholarly legal and professional references and case law citations at the end of each chapter, many chapters cite additional bibliographic material and web sites. Self-study questions and explanations for correct and incorrect answers are included. The book can also be used as a text in graduate courses or as a resource for continuing education programs.
