New to the second edition of this major resource are three new chapters: pharmacogenomics, pharmacoeconomics, and pain management. The chapter on complementary medication contains expanded and revised material on herbal medicines, the chapter on drug therapy at the end of life has been expanded, and additional clinical pearls and case studies have been added. The text is well-organized and thorough, with initial chapters devoted to fundamentals of pharmacology and its use by nurse practitioners, including chapters on legal aspects of prescribing drugs, and the use of computers and the Internet. The 27 remaining chapters provide detailed description of the drugs used for specific ailments, with useful tables describing the various drugs, dosages, how supplied, and cost, among other information.
