Her findings reflect the amount of unspoken prejudice that still exists in America. Tribes that interbred more with black than white settlers are less likely to be approved. She also notes that the more acculturated a tribe is, the less likely it will be recognized as such. The match to this fire is the widespread establishment of casinos on tribal lands. People are accused of cashing in on a tenuous ancestral connection. Woven in to the problem is that there is still a gap in understanding of different tribal customs.
