This reference offers an introduction to the basic principles of animal restraint and an overview of techniques for vertebrate wild and domestic animals. An introductory section covers general concepts, such as tools of restraint, rope work, thermoregulation, and medical problems during restraint. The rest of the material in the book is divided into two sections on domestic and wild animals. This third edition provides color photos, along with five new chapters on animal behavior under restraint, animal welfare concerns during restraint, training for restraint procedures, camelidae, and megavertebrates. Several sections have been given chapter status. There is also new material on chemical restraint agents, and on chemical restraint for each wild animal covered. The readership for the book includes veterinarians and veterinary students and technicians. Fowler is professor emeritus of zoological medicine at the University of California-Davis.
