McAdoo, instructional services librarian at Edinboro U. of Pennsylvania, offers advice for inexperienced librarians to working with instructors and students to develop assignments to integrate the library's resources and bridge content with students' understanding of that content and incorporation into their knowledge bases. He first discusses the ways information literacy can play a role in creating effective assignments, then deals with the issues involved in working with faculty, ways to improve relationships, common reasons assignments fail, and specific types of assignments involving the library, including using information technology, writing and essay assignments, research papers, citing sources and information ethics, and online assignments.
