While there is much information online about digital print processes, the rapid growth in the field has stabilized enough to move information from web sites to a printed book, a necessity now that some digital printing processes available merely five years ago have become 'historic.' This resource explores digital printing technologies, materials, and print characteristics, and will be useful for anyone involved in identifying and preserving digital prints, including conservators, curators, archivists, photographers, artists, printers, and students. The book concentrates on major digital printing processes used over the past 40 years for printing images in photography and art, as opposed to those used for advertising and text documents. Print processes are categorized, and recommendations are given for preservation, exhibition, storage and gallery labeling. A chapter devoted to typical deterioration problems and preservation solutions. The book is illustrated with 227 color and 49 b&w illustrations, including photomicrographs and cross sections, and comes with a removable, illustrated 16.5x28" poster reference for identifying specific processes and materials.
