The second in a two-volume set first published in 1970, this volume covers the history of ethics from from 1750 to current times. The theories of those such as Hegel, Mill, Marx, Engels, Durkheim, Wittgenstein, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, and many others are summarized, without critical commentary but with explanation of relevant terminology. Asian philosophy is omitted. For contemporary theory, only key individuals from specific schools have been selected. The index references both volumes; an introduction appears in the first volume.
