While there are abundant resources for helping the mentor and the new teacher, very little has been written to guide leaders of teacher and mentor development. Sweeny, an independent educational consultant, provides a model for developing, evaluating, and sustaining a teacher induction and mentoring program. He gives step-by-step directions for each part of the program development and implementation process, and links induction and mentoring to district-wide goals for improved teaching practice and student achievement. Sample schedules, templates, and reproducible forms are included, along with mentor training activities and scenarios.
