General and special education teachers will find ideas on how to help students with significant intellectual disabilities in the context of K-12 general education classrooms. Ideas are based on empirical research and personal experience. The first chapter describes recommended practices and looks at factors such as family involvement, inclusion, and positive behavior support. Further chapters cover instructional strategies and teaching arrangements, determining student needs with various assessment methods, teaching the core curriculum, and teaching as a collaborative effort.
