The first, devoted to career information, contains 16 contributed chapters, many of which are chatty first-person accounts of what it's like to train for and work in the fields of physical therapy, nutrition, biomechanics research, coaching, personal training, worksite health promotion, and sports journalism, among others. The final chapter discusses training and education needs beyond an undergraduate degree, and the appendices comprise listings of colleges that offer sports science courses, and sports science societies. The second volume focuses on athlete health, injuries, and prevention, with chapters discussing injuries to each part of the body at a level appropriate for trainers and athletes. The final volume, on psychological perspectives, addresses strategies for optimizing performance and preventing overtraining syndrome as well as the psychological aspects of injuries, fitness, and care of student athletes in a university environment.
