This anthology incorporates major advances in behavioral science in drug, alcohol, and tobacco addiction research and treatment since the Addictive Behaviors Reader (1997). Marlatt (psychology/Addictive Behaviors Research Center, U. of Washington) and Witkiewitz (Alcohol and Drug Abuse Research Institute, UW) introduce 26 articles reprinted from APA journals since 1997 that discuss newer approaches including harm- reduction (as vs. abstinence-only), integrated treatments for co- morbid substance abuse/mental health issues, Web-based assessment tools and interventions, and stepped-care (as vs. traditional intensive residential treatment).
