'Partner aggression' is the construct that unites this recent research review relating to such aggression and its clinical implications. In introducing these dozen chapters, psychologists O'Leary (Stony Brook U., New York) and Woodin (Centre for Addictions Research of British Columbia) point out their focus on the interplay of forms of aggression. The North American contributors present prevalence rates (e.g., of marital rape); assessment and methodological issues; psychopathological/psychophysiological correlates to physical aggression (substance abuse as cause or excuse?); predictive typologies; and group, individual, and couple treatment options.
