This is the fourth scholarly volume devoted to the ancient Buddhist texts, which are written on birch bark and were found in earthenware pots, perhaps in Afghanistan, and acquired by the British Library in 1994 and by the Senior Collection at the same time. An introductory essay by Mark Allon describes the entire Senior collection of the scrolls, followed by a detailed description and discussion of their contents, paleography, and comparative texts by Glass. A fold-out color plate of the reconstructed manuscript and some b&w plates are included. Appendices contain the texts of comparative material and there are word, Chinese-Gandhari, and Tibetan-Gandhari indexes, as well as a lengthy bibliography.
