The late Morison, a professor of American history at Harvard U., was appointed by his close friend, Franklin D. Roosevelt, to write the history of US naval operations during World War II, and in this first volume in the series, he presents all US naval operations in the Atlantic from September 1939 to May 1943, including the Caribbean, the Gulf of Mexico, the Barents Sea and Atlantic territorial waters, and the defense of American shores and ships against German U-boats in protecting shipping, supply, and troop transport.
