Greek historian Procopios wrote three accounts of the reign of Roman emperor Justinian, one fairly neutral, one a panegyric, and this condemnation, which appeared in 550 AD. In it, he accused the emperor and his wife Theodora of corruption and incompetence severe enough to destroy whole cities and provinces. Kaldellils (Greek and Latin, Ohio State U.) presents a new translation and edition accompanied by passages from Procopios' other work, official documents, and other accounts of contemporary events. Extensive footnotes explain references, provide background, and explain terms in the Greek and how he translated them. Other materials includes a chronology, a glossary, genealogies, and maps.
