Bilodeau, Paul R. Thie (both Boston College) and G. E. Keough (Salisbury U.) offer a textbook for a first course in analysis for undergraduate students who have completed a sequence of one or two semesters in calculus. It discusses the real numbers and limits, sequences and series, functions and continuity, and differentiation and integration in a rigorous manner designed to develop the ability of students to work in an abstract setting with precise definitions and complete logical proofs. More generally, it seeks to facilitate the often bumpy transition from the computational and conceptual approach of calculus to the theoretical and formal approach of analysis. No date is noted for the first edition; the second adds three sections on two-variable calculus and a concluding chapter on differential equations.
