The Second International Conference on Medieval Philosophy was held in August 2006 at Porto Alegre, Brazil. The 14 papers--eight in English--do not particularly contribute to the recent historizing of the the study of philosophy, though they do include some historical and biographical dimension. They are connected, however, and together diverge from other studies, by focusing on the central role that transcendental concepts and theories play within natural theology and especially metaphysical theories of the 13th and 14th centuries. The topics include Duns Scotus and the univocity of the concept of being, Anselm of Canterbury on pure perfection, and Suárez and Heidegger on the transcendental moment in the cognito transcendentalis.
