Eighteen American academics and researchers contribute ten chapters examining language diversity, immigration, and educational policy in the US in the past and present, and offering interdisciplinary perspectives on the education of language minority immigrants in the US. The chapters are organized into three sections presenting large-scale data analyses of language minority populations; discussion of language, culture, and identity of language minority students; and examinations of educational and language assessment policies of language minority students. The underlying theme of the collection is the ways in which institutional policies and individual, family, and school practices can improve the educational outcomes and quality of lives of language minority immigrant children.
