Fourteen academics from the UK, U.S., Canada, and Finland contribute 12 chapters on contemporary research into queer theory and practices, as they intersect with new media and communication technologies. Coverage includes theoretical background, including some of the contexts of debates in the 1990s and 2000s; the relation of online and offline spaces and identities; the reformulations of desire, affect, visibility, subjectivity, identity, and the screen; and ways that specific structural economies--media, consumer, moral--are relocated and reproduced through contemporary practices. Investigating the relations between the technical, legal and industrial organization of online media and the queer practices they facilitate, the text will be of interest to activists and members of queer communities.
