For scholars, practitioners, and graduate students, Kenny (counseling psychology, Boston College) et al. assemble 13 chapters that address methods of prevention meant to foster social justice. Contributors working in the US in psychology and counseling, community health and preventive medicine, education, public health, and other fields discuss the historical and conceptual roots of this perspective and issues related to research, program evaluation, ethics, and training, and social justice concerns relating to diversity and health in various contexts. They address promoting health and well-being in families, schools, workplaces, and communities using a public health approach. The book originated in a pre-convention workshop of the Society for Counseling Psychology of the American Psychological Association at its 111th convention in Toronto in 2003.
