The classical tradition never ended. We are agreed upon that, and we are agreed that we took thinking from the classical tradition to come to that agreement. However, the perception of "classical tradition" has changed over time, and in fact the idea of there being a formal tradition at all, defined as a handing down, seems to be a modern conceit. These 26 new essays, designed for use by advanced undergraduates but accessible to general readers as well as specialists in other fields, focus on periods from the middle ages to modernism, places from Africa to the US, and themes from reception to postcolonial studies, gender and sexuality, fascism, psychology, postmodern art and architecture, and film.
