This volume recounts the history of the escort company and staff officers of Nathan Bedford Forrest, a Civil War strategist and commander for the Confederacy. He describes how the group became a legend, partly in association with Forrest, and partly because they fought and won the battles he sent them to. He addresses the legend behind Forrest, his military career and rise to fame, followed by an account of the members of his staff from 1862-1865, and the history of the veterans association formed after the war from 1877 to 1909, with minutes of their meetings.
