A Chinese immigrant herself and the parent of an immigrant student, Fu (literacy and learning, U. of Florida) describes her five-year collaborative experience in a school change project at a New York public school which enrolls primarily the children of Chinese immigrants. A literacy consultant with expertise in ESL and bilingual education, Fu assisted faculty and administrators in designing instruction which develops children's knowledge of America and American society in their first language, while also developing their English skills.
