The problem is that whenever one of the myriad foundationalist schools of modern philosophy proclaims the death of metaphysics, someone always points out that the argument has only replaced one metaphysic with another. Drawing on the work of 19th-century German theologian Schleiermacher, Titans (general and comparative religion, U. of Latvia-Riga) suggests a solution he calls metaphysical inside-out-ness. It recognizes the impossibility of leaving metaphysics behind, but shows some ways of stepping outside it.
