In 1570, the penultimate ruler of the Inca dynasty narrated his account of the Spanish conquest of Peru to a Spanish missionary. It was transcribed by a mestizo assistant, and so is filtered through both the monk and the scribe, but remains a unique perspective. Bauer (English, U. of Maryland-College Park) introduces it by pointing out how it merges Andean and Spanish rhetorical and cultural practices.
