Barrera (special education program, U. of New Mexico) and Kramer (special education, National U. in Costa Mesa, California) show educational professionals how the behavior of young children can be interpreted in the context of culture and diversity so that challenging interactions can be addressed more effectively. The authors use case studies and discussion questions to demonstrate respect, reciprocity and responsiveness to these dialogues that will result in increased confidence and communication skills in these children.
